1969 VW Baja Bug

This 1969 Baja Bug is powered by a GM 2.2 liter ECOTEC engine producing approximately 150 HP. The radiator is hidden in front of the engine, a fiberglass scoop and ductwork directs air from underneath the car, forces it through the radiator and out the rear. The stock VW transmission was rebuilt with close ratio 3rd and 4th gears and 4.12:1 ring and pinion. Four inches of suspension lift was accomplished by using Thing spindles and torsion bar adjusters in the front, and custom made trailing arms in the rear. Type 2 race-prepped CV joints and chromoly axles are used for their added strength, length, and angle of operation. The 235/75-R15 mud terrain tires are mounted on 5-1/2″ wide OEM style wheels. Brakes have been upgraded to discs on all four corners. Variable assist electric power steering was adapted from a Chevy Equinox and makes steering nearly effortless with one hand. The front and rear hoods are original steel VW parts, cut down to size and edges wire beaded. Seats from a 2010 New Beetle were installed, and the remainder of the interior has been restored to near original.
