1968 Land Kreuzer

Vintage Japanese styling, German engineering, and American Hot-Rodding come together to create a truly one of a kind vehicle that is radically different than any other. The Land Kreuzer combines Toyota’s classic FJ40 Land Cruiser body, a V12 engine from BMW’s flagship 7-Series sedan, and custom made tubular steel chassis and suspension. Major changes were made to the proportions of the body while retaining the original styling and features that give the FJ40 it’s iconic utilitarian look.

The BMW M70 engine is a 4988cc 60 degree V12 producing 300 hp at 5200 RPM and 330 lb/ft at 4100 RPM, with a 6000 RPM redline. It remains stock internally, with only minor external changes. An ECU Masters EMU controls fuel injection and spark timing using the OEM BMW sensors and dual distributors. The exhaust flows through dual 2.5” stainless steel pipes and Magnaflow mufflers, exiting through center-mounted upswept tips. A six speed manual gearbox from a BMW 5-Series V8 was adapted to the V12 engine using a modified bellhousing. Power is transferred through a custom drive shaft to a 2006 GTO limited slip rear differential. Porsche 930 CV joints and custom chromoly axles extend the power to the rear wheels. 13” front and 12” rear disc brakes come from a 2004 Corvette. A Ford Mustang hydroboost and steering rack provide braking and steering assist.

The body is an original steel ‘68 Toyota body with 3” removed from the rockers, 3” sectioned from the middle, and 5” chopped from the top for an overall 11” reduction in body height. The rear wheel arches have been moved back 7” extending the wheelbase to 97” and providing room for seating. Overall body length and width are unchanged. It is finished in Toyota Voodoo Blue two stage urethane. The chassis is a spaceframe/unibody design constructed from square and rectangular steel tubing with a large central tunnel providing rigidity. Independent front and rear suspension use custom fabricated tubular control arms and adjustable coil-over shocks. Front steering knuckles and hubs are C5/C6 Corvette, rear uprights are custom fabricated and use Corvette unit-bearing hubs.
